Dip-Dyed Hair!

Hey everyone! I had a chance to do something a little new this week. Lizzy wanted the end's of her hair "Dip-Dyed" and I happened to have some pink and purple hair color on hand, so we went for it! Check out the results:

I also colored my lil bro's faux-hawk purple and I hope to be getting a picture of that soon so you can see the difference between putting these funky colors on light hair vs. dark hair. They both turned out looking awesome!

These colors wash out pretty quickly which makes it nice for those that might not want to have pink hair for the next 3 months! Feel free to contact me through facebook or this blog if you would like to set up an appointment for a little flair of color!

Faux-Hawk Fabulous!

David Beckham? Is that you? This is my cousin's boyfriend, Dillon, after he let her pick out his haircut. My husband thought this was awesome and I agree:

Reba McEntire Red

Howdy ya'll! Ever dream of having hair like Reba? Well this is the transformation for you! Chelsea has this awesome natural color that I would call light strawberry blonde and the perfect skin tone to be a red head.

She picked a "Reba McEntire" red and we decided to put about 3 different levels and tones of red in it. Underneath was a medium dark brown copper, with a medium copper red and light copper streaks through the top. I didn't really want to see a huge color change between the three. We just wanted the color to look like a nice "natural" redhead. Here are the results!

Isn't that the most rockin' Reba color you have ever seen! I can't even remember when she had the lighter strawberry blonde! I think she has always been a redhead deep down in her heart! Love it!

New Hair!

After months of keeping her hair the same brown shade and growing it out as much as possible for her wedding, Kassie was finally ready for something new! Kassie loves to change her hair and fortunetly, her hair is practically indestructable, so we usually do it all the time!

She came in with an all-over level 3/4 natural and her hair was just skimming the tops of her shoulders.

This is what we did:

For the color I bleached out some chunky highlights underneath with some more blended highlights throughout the top. Then used a toner to achieve the nice red that would really pop against her dark hair.
With the cut we wanted to take her much shorter. Kassie has always looked fantastic with short hair ending somewhere between her chin and her shoulders and I am always so pleased with our end result. This time we did a slightly graduated a-line with just a minimum amount of layers to keep a lot of the volume throughout.

Doesn't she look fantastic?

Kassie Luck (Timothy)'s Wedding Hair

On Friday, March 4th, one of my very good friends, Kassie Luck, got married to her fiance, Jared Timothy. I took the day off knowing that I would be doing her hair and was able to pretty much hang around helping all day and night. Such a beautiful wedding and such a stunning bride!

Although her hairstyle was quite simple overall, it actually took quite a bit of planning and effort. For anyone that doesn't already know Kassie, I will let you in on a little secret...Shhhh....come closer....Kassie has short hair! This is a little hair piece that she purchased a few months ago and it was so nice to have for her wedding! A few days before the big event we did a run through and then I rinsed out the hair and set it in pincurls so that it would be ready for the weekend. That was probably the only downside: the hair was synthetic instead of human hair so we couldn't use heat. But seriously...with everything that can be a downside to a bride's hair on her wedding day, this was a cake walk!
For the wedding we were able to curl her natural hair, pin in the hairpiece, pull everything to the side, wrestle with the bangs and then viola! Top it off with her birdcage veil and the effect is stunning! I absolutely loved everything about it!

Congratulations Kassie and Jared! Awesome couple headed for an awesome life!

I WANT NEW SHEARS!!!

Hint, hint Builder Man (that's the hubby)!

I have been looking into a new pair of shears for per-near 6 months. Here are a few of my top choices:

The Kamisori Teuton
Super long shears (7 inches!!!) made from excellent japanese steel with hand ground convex edges. SWEET!! They also come with a free hair razor.

The Washi Fusion Set of 3
These are much more affordable than the Kamisori shear. They seem to still be a good quality shear with japanese folded steel and a hand-ground convex edge. Launchpad magazine has said good things about them, but they just don't carry the awards that the Kamisori does. That being said, I desperately need a new pair of texturizing and thinning shears and this set has both. Also, the shears can be ordered in a long length (6.5 inches) and they all have get free life-time sharpening. I'm leaning....

The Shisato Mirage
My first pair of shears was a Shisato student shear. They really have been excellent. Again, made from the japanese folded steel,....blah blah blah. When I take them to be sharpened, the man doing it always commments on what a nice set of shears they are. I really have loved them and I am liking this shear (again-7 inches!) and they aren't quite as expensive as the Kamisori, but they don't come with a free texturizing shear or really anything to entice me to buy.

So many choices, so little money.
And really, let's not even talk about the prices on these things. Most people know that professional shears are a bit more pricy than a set of kitchen shears, but few realize that it would take the better part of my monthy pay check to buy any of these. So I'm raising my prices. Ha ha! Just kidding! I'll wait to do that when i am in such demand that I can't keep up! But until then....I'm still taking appointments:)
